This photo was taken of a steaming mineral deposit at Geysir.
Geysir is the location for the original Great Geysir (what all other geysers have been named for) , and the site includes lots of colourful hot springs, steaming vents, warm streams, and algae and mineral deposits.
The Great Geysir first began erupting in the 14th century and continued to erupt until human interference ceased the eruptions in the 20th century. The water was artificially lowered, and Geysir now spouts again. The Great Geysir will spout up to 50 m to no specific timetable. |
