This photo was taken at the Temple of Isis at Philae, an island on the Nile. The temple was built during the Roman Period and took 800 years to complete.
With the creation of the High Dam in 1902, Philae was partially submerged. Due to the efforts of UNESCO and the Egyptian Antiquities Department between 1972 and 1980 the entire complex was relocated to higher ground on nearby Agilkia Island. |
